5.3How do I handle difficult conditions during a scan?

LiDAR measures distances to surfaces: anything that disturbs that reading degrades the survey. Here are the most common cases and how to handle them.

Low light

Below 50 lux, turn on the Flash option from the scan interface. Wall detection still works in the dark, but photos taken during the scan would be unusable.

Large areas

Scan one room at a time, staying on the same floor, then use Add Room to merge the data with the existing plan. A continuous scan over a large area accumulates drift; splitting it limits the error.

Reflective surfaces

Mirrors, large glazing and very glossy surfaces reflect the signal poorly. Two reflexes:

• slow down as you approach them and aim at the frames rather than the surface itself;
• fix afterwards by adding the opening manually if it wasn't detected.

Cluttered rooms

Bulky furniture hides the bottom of walls. Aim at the top of partitions and at corners: those define the room's geometry.

When the result isn't right

The Rescan option, offered at the end of the capture, lets you start again immediately. Rescanning on site is always faster than rebuilding the plan by drawing. See post-scan options.
